North Carolina DOT e‑ticketing requirements

NCDOT e-ticketing for asphalt is optional, at the contractor's choice, on all contracts since the August 2024 letting. If you opt in, the provision's requirements apply, including sending tickets by API to NCDOT's portal. We found no NCDOT requirement for e-tickets as of the October 2025 lettings we checked.
Optional: The contractor can choose e-tickets instead of paper tickets.

Data requirements
Per SP10 R20: date, contract number, supplier name, contractor name, material, JMF, gross, tare, and net weight, load number, cumulative weight, truck number, weighmaster certification, expiration and name, facility name, plant certification number, ticket number, hauling firm (optional), and voided/original ticket numbers and supplier revision if needed. System must integrate with plant load read-out so scale data cannot be altered; tickets uploaded by API in real time with daily summaries.
What contractors should do
- Decide before the preconstruction conference whether to use e-tickets, and tell the Engineer.
- Have your supplier test ticket data sharing at least 30 days before the project starts.
- Request an NCDOT security key and download the NCDOT E-Ticket API and data standard from the E-Ticketing page.
- Agree on a backup procedure with NCDOT for locations with limited cell service.
- Do not budget extra pay; NCDOT states no additional compensation is anticipated.
What haulers should do
- Make sure the truck number on the ticket matches your truck.
- If your company name is captured, check that the hauling firm field on the ticket is correct.
