Trucking accounting software turns hauling work into accounting records: invoices for customers, bills for the sub-haulers you pay, and pay for drivers. Tread handles the trucking side. It dispatches loads, collects tickets, and builds invoices and settlements from approved work. It then exports approved settlements as QuickBooks invoices and bills.
The gap
What accounting software does, and does not do, for a trucking company
What QuickBooks does well
It keeps your general ledger, tracks what customers owe you and what you owe vendors, records payments, reconciles your bank, and produces your financial statements. QuickBooks Online runs in the cloud and QuickBooks Desktop runs on your own computer.
What it does not know about trucking
It does not know which truck hauled which load, which scale ticket proves it, or whether the tonnage on the ticket matches the job. It does not hold a customer rate and a driver rate for the same load, or a rate per ton, per load, or per hour for each project.
Where the gap shows up
Someone collects paper tickets, keys each one into a spreadsheet, checks it against the job, works out the rate, and types the invoice into QuickBooks. Lost tickets become loads nobody bills. Late tickets push the invoice back a week.
What trucking software adds
It captures the ticket at the truck, ties it to the load and the job, and applies the project rates. The accounting system then receives finished invoices and bills instead of raw tickets.
What a billing clerk told us
It took two to four days every week just to finish last week’s invoices. Billing was always about a week behind.
What customers tell us about payroll
A customer told us morning payroll used to run from 5:30 to 8 am. Now it takes about an hour.
How it connects

QuickBooks
What moves between Tread and QuickBooks
Tread syncs with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. Setup is per company, so ask your rep about your account.
| Direction | What |
|---|---|
| Read into Tread from QuickBooks | Customers, vendors, items, accounts, payment terms, and tax rates |
| Written from Tread to QuickBooks | Approved settlements, as QuickBooks invoices and bills |
| Not synced | Payments. Record payments in QuickBooks. They are not synced back to Tread. |
QuickBooks stays your ledger. Keep the source documents behind each invoice: the IRS lists invoices among the records that support gross receipts and expenses. Intuit sells QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop as separate products, so confirm which one you run.
Before the invoice
What Tread does before anything reaches QuickBooks
Rates set per project
Rate cards, fuel surcharge schedules, and add-ons set pricing for each project.
Tickets checked against the job
AI reads printed and handwritten scale and material tickets from a photo and returns the ticket number, date, quantity, unit, material, and truck. AI checks each ticket’s quantity, date, and ticket number against the job, and flags the ones that need a look. Tread flags potential duplicate tickets (same ticket number on the same order) for review.
Settlements from approved work
Approved tickets and hours become driver and vendor settlements, with overtime and prevailing-wage rules applied, and a settlement PDF you can email. You pay your haulers directly.
What a billing lead told us
A clean ticket takes about 15 seconds to approve. A bad one can take 15 minutes. After a full day of checking tickets, people stop seeing the errors.
When QuickBooks alone is enough
If you run a few trucks for a few customers, with one rate per customer and a handful of tickets a day, invoicing straight from QuickBooks can work. It stops working when:
- Tickets arrive by the dozen.
- Hired trucks run beside your own.
- Each project carries its own rates.
Who Tread is for
Tread is built for material producers, bulk haulers, and civil contractors moving aggregates and construction materials over short hauls.
- Tread dispatches full-truckload, point-to-point hauling: one pickup, one drop-off, and a flat rate per load. We don't do LTL.
- Tread is not built for long-haul freight. Our trucking dispatch software guide lists carrier tools that fit better.
- For dump truck work, see dump truck dispatch software and how it serves bulk haulers.

What operators say
“We used to spend half our day dealing with paper tickets. With Tread, every ticket is digital, every load is tracked, and we invoice the same day.”
SchlondaDispatcher · Rhino Trucking“Our competitors can build a project with the same products, materials, people and equipment. We have to figure out a way to become more competitive, and that’s why Tread is so valuable.”
