Montana DOT e‑ticketing requirements

MDT has a standard special provision, Electronic Ticketing - PMS [401] (revised April 9, 2026), that requires e-tickets for plant mix surfacing sent to MDT's HaulHub e-ticket portal. It applies on contracts that include the provision. Printed tickets are still required unless the Project Manager directs otherwise.

Contracts that include standard special 401-2. The Project Manager may rescind it and require paper tickets if integration is not possible with the plant's technology.

Data requirements

Electronic data from the plant's load read-out weigh system with the information in Subsection 401.03.8(B), uploaded within 5 minutes of ticket creation. At least 3 calendar days before paving, set up and calibrate the interface and send at least 5 calibration e-tickets marked 'Test'. Internet access is required at the hot plant.

What contractors should do

  1. Coordinate with the Project Manager and HaulHub to connect the plant's scale system to the MDT portal.
  2. Set up the interface and send at least 5 'Test' e-tickets at least 3 calendar days before paving.
  3. Make sure the hot plant has internet access and that tickets upload within 5 minutes.
  4. Keep printing tickets unless the Project Manager says otherwise.
  5. Include setup and training costs in your bid, because e-ticketing work is not measured for payment.

What haulers should do

  1. Carry the printed ticket; MDT still requires printed tickets alongside e-tickets unless directed otherwise.
  2. Confirm your truck ID with the plant so it appears correctly on e-tickets.
